January 2024 eNews
Dear Members,
It was wonderful to see so many of you last November at our 14th annual conference and I hope those of you that were able to attend will agree, the conference was a magnificent success. With over 760 attendees, and 44 commercial partners attending we indulged in 2.5 days of networking, collaboration, making future plans, engagement with and dissemination of knowledge.
We are already making headway with ASPiH 2024, and we hope to make this an even stronger community space for collaborating and sharing knowledge and innovations as we celebrate. ASPiH’s 15th year as an association. The latest updates will be shared on our website and social media channels. https://aspihconference.co.uk/
Immediately after conference I attended the GNSH2023 Annual summit in Dubai on behalf of ASPiH. The purpose of the summit was to bring healthcare leaders, simulation experts and researchers, corporate and industry leaders to explore where simulation may offer solutions for the global health human resource crisis.
Professor Mark Britnell: former CE of University Hospitals Birmingham, now a Trustee at The Kings Fund among other roles, presented some staggering statistics on the workforce crisis and shared his perspective on changes to tackle this including; Patients as partners with people powered health and cloud based consultations; Agile learning organisations with team based forecasting and horizon scanning; and a Managed and motivated workforce by loving your staff – conduct meaningful PDR’s, bring joy to work , crucial to focus on leadership, culture and ability.
ASPiH EC member Guillaume Alinier presented his perspectives on the challenges and gaps in the supply and demand of health workers, and advocated for standardisation, accreditation, certification, and ethical codes for simulation educators and practitioners.
I was struck by two things – how so much of our work could impact or be part of these suggested solutions, how important it is to engage with our global simulation community colleagues to discuss, share, challenge and advance our thinking in simulation solutions for our health and care workforce and the patients we serve.
Here is a link to the GNSH website https://www.gnsh.org/ - there is a useful toolkit on making a case for simulation which you may find useful!

ASPiH exec take to a stand at the conference!
Last year members of the ASPiH executive committee took to their very own stand in the exhibition hall to meet all the delegates. Our ambition was to learn more about our delegates, and how ASPiH could support them as members or non-members moving forward. Free sweets and pens were the crowd puller and at times we had queues of people waiting to speak to the exec.
We are excited to report ASPiH captured lots of interesting data via a short survey which will inform some projects moving forward to enhance our provision for its members. Should you still wish to complete this survey please feel free to access it by scanning this QR code.
